GOING TO CRACK MY BONES :: a bellatrix black x unity mitford parallel mix (❖)
“The American communist newspaper People’s Weekly World noted parallels between the history of Britain’s celebrated Mitford sisters and the characters of the Black family. Author Jessica Mitford, who Rowling has said is her hero and most influential writer, fought against Nazism and fascism, while her sisters Unity and Diana were both fascists and close allies of Hitler. Paralleling this, sisters Narcissa Black Malfoy and Bellatrix Black Lestrange were both close allies of Voldemort and the Death Eaters while Andromeda Tonks was allied with the Order of the Phoenix.

”Unity Valkerie Mitford (8 August 1914 – 28 May 1948) Daughter of Lord Redesdale and one of the famous Mitford sisters, she was a restless girl who devoted herself to fascism in 1932. She traveled to Nuremberg, Germany for the August 1933 Nazi Party rally and finally met Adolf Hitler after extensively stalking him. She became part of his entourage, sitting at his feet, although it is not thought that she became his mistress. When Britain declared war on Germany on September 3, 1939, she delivered a farewell letter to Hitler to the Ministry of the Interior, and shot herself in the forehead in the English Garden, Munich. She survived, was visited by Hitler on November 8, and taken back to England a day later. She lived the rest of her life an invalid on the island of Inch Kenneth, near Mull. It had been decided not to remove the bullet which ultimately caused a cerebral abscess.”

This mix was much more difficult to make than Kill All My Darlings, and quite frankly I instantly regretted saying I would do it at all. Having just been filled with such lovely and sometimes terribly melancholy stories of dear Unity Mitford, I felt even more pressure to come up with something that captured both her mania and her glory. There is one song in particular that I felt did both Unity and Bella justice, and that is track 009 by Susanne Sundfør. You’ll understand when you hear it. (Susanne has quickly replaced Shara Worden in that nearly every song is reminiscent of the infamous House of Black.)

Again, credit to this wond(ai)rful piece of half-fiction: Wondair and Extraorder wherein the Mitford sisters attend Hogwarts and I sob the entire time I read it… (And sigh because I was hardly ever talented enough to even dream such a scenario and will forever be depressed that I hadn’t.)

I decided to make a mix that I felt captured what I imagine to have been a young Narcissa Black(/Diana Mitford) - great and terrible stupid gorgeous dreamy elitist fascist aristocrats - because I can truly only express myself through music. That and I wanted an excuse to indulge in Harry Potter again. So. :) I want to thank my dearest darling SJ for rekindling my love for Narcissa and her decidedly crooked sisters. Also - for pointing me in the direction of a fic entitled: Wondair and Extraorder wherein the Mitford sisters attend Hogwarts and I sob the entire time I read it… Oh! And Emma! Emma is the reason I know anything in life and was the first, ages ago, to unknowingly introduce me to the Mitford/Black sister theory and I thank her. She is a beautiful angel cherub baby that occasionally visits my blog on a fluffy white cloud. <3
